Well, getting a free site with a free domain is kinda hard. If you want a free domain, you can always complete offers on

A domain is only 10 bucks per year though; it really isn’t that expensive.

Also, if you have little HTML knowledge, you should try using this site.

Well, I don’t really know of any free ones. You can try “webs.com”, but your URL would be “example.webs.com”. That is unless you pay for the domain service on there website. It is a very easy to use web editor. When you pay for the service it is $19.95 a year. It is the only website design service I use. If you want the free service, just make an account and you can edit it any way you want it. Hopefully this has helped you.

There’s only one legitimate ways to get a free domain name - from a top level domain that gives them, like .tk or .co.cc. Completing “free” offers costs more than a domain name. “Free” domain names with web hosting costs more than the domain name.

You can get legitimate subdomain names (yourname.theirname) all over the web.

Hello,
Here are the two applications I use for my websites:

Kompozer: This is a very good program that is similar to Microsoft Publisher that makes HTML for you.
It is a “what you see is what you get” type of program that lets you insert graphics, text and formats everything for you then you save to a folder. You can then upload your HTML to your website.
Note: Kompozer does not “do” frames.

For frames you will need:
Coffee Cup another good app.The free one is not “WYSIWYG” but you can “preview” the page then keep changing the source code until it looks like what you want. There is a paid version that promises it is a “what you see is what you get” editor but I have not tried it.

Here is a hint:
To place everything in the correct place on your webpage use a “Table”.
Komposer lets you insert a table in your page starting at the cursor position. At first it looks very small but it automatically resizes the cells so they “line up”.

I usually use a 3 x 5 table. (that is three spaces across and five vertical).
Using an odd number of cells lets you place text or graphics in the center, left or right.

If you insert a graphic it has to be a gif, jpg or png extension and you should resize the image to fit your cell before inserting. I use XN View for resizing and editing photos. It’s a nice free photo editor that makes it very easy to resize pics and set resolution, change extensions and compress images.

Also set the resolution of the image to 72 or 96 dpi and the compression can be about 40 %. If you have the choice in your editor make it “progressive”.(The picture “fades” in as it loads).

Doing the above for graphic images keeps the file size small so it will load on the page faster. No one is going to wait 5 or 6 seconds for an image to load onto the page.

When you have a webpage along with it’s images saved to a folder on your computer you can click on the “name.html” file and it should open up with your browser (just like any other webpage only it’s still on your computer)

That is how to check out your page to see if it works.

Once you have a webpage that “works” in a folder on your computer you will need an FTP client to upload it.

Komposer and CoffeeCup both have FTP clients “built in” but I have not used ithem.

For an easy to use FTP client I use Core FTP which is one of several I have used and they all worked OK.

For a domain name you will have to buy one then you will need a host to provide “space” for your files on the internet. There are lots of hosts which you can find doing a Google search.

Making a website is fun to do but you will have a “learning curve”.
I have been doing this for a few years and still do not know everything (or even very much) about making a site. You need to start out doing a simple page and “go from there”. You can get a lot of help on the internet by searching for “HTML help. Here is one such page but there must be hundreds more.

Just don’t give up. Making a web page is not magic besides it’s fun.

Hope this is a help,
Al

First off, consider the benefit of being able to quickly and easily update your website, while having complete control of content and layout. If this interests you, you’ll want to spend just a bit of money and check out the WYSIWYG simple web design programs. One of the most popular and well-reviewed among these programs is Sandvox for Mac OS X from Karelia Software (http://www.sandvox.com). Sandvox features over 50 design templates, with more coming from third-party sources nearly every day (http://www.sandvoxdesigns.com).

See some examples of professional websites you can create with Sandvox at. Check out their tutorial screencast at… and download a free demo if you like what you see. Karelia is also well-known for a great and supportive user community and excellent customer service.

Best of luck with your new website.
